Problem Description

On a server with an Intel Core Ultra 7 265 processor, the integrated graphics adapter may be detected in Windows as a basic display adapter if the Intel graphics driver is not installed.

In this case, Device Manager may show the following device:

Microsoft Basic Display Adapter

To ensure the integrated GPU works correctly, the Intel Graphics driver must be installed.

Solution

For the Intel Core Ultra 7 265 processor, use the Intel graphics driver for the Intel Arc / Intel Graphics family.

The driver was successfully installed on Windows by simply running the .exe installer file.

On the official Intel download page, the recommended operating systems for this driver are listed as:

Windows 11 Family*
Windows 10* (22H2)

Despite this, in the tested case, the driver also installed successfully on Windows Server using the standard installation method — by running the .exe installer file.

Installation Instructions

  1. Go to the official Intel website.

  2. Open the official Intel driver download page:

    Intel® Arc™ Graphics - Windows

  3. Download the driver installer file.

The file name usually looks like this:

    gfx_win_*.exe

  4. Run the downloaded .exe file as Administrator.

  5. Follow the instructions in the Intel installer.

  6. Restart the server after the installation is complete.

  7. After the restart, open:

    Device Manager → Display adapters

  8. Make sure that instead of:

    Microsoft Basic Display Adapter

an Intel graphics adapter is displayed.
